Lose Weight by Rewiring Your Mind—Not Just Your Meals
My mission is to help people achieve their weight goals fast and maintaining it by having the right mindset. I want to help people who have a deep desire to lose weight and to live healthier lifestyles but struggle because they either don’t know what do to, where to start, how to get motivated and stay motivated, have physical issues or conditions that make them feel limited, or who may think they don’t have the time or money to do so, etc…
I promote that having the right mindset is the first step in the weight loss equation of mindset/nutrition/exercise. I want to help people not only have a weight goal but also a why, a vision and a mission (i.e.: action plan) to help them attain their goal and keep it off for good.
Mindset changes also mean lifestyle changes. But that does not mean it can’t be fast. Some changes can even be instant like a lightbulb switch; other changes and for other people it may take longer.
I want to help them by doing the following 5 points:
1. Develop clarity and awareness
Awareness has to be the first step to changing ones mindset. For example, we may be aware that we need to lose weight but that alone is not enough to create long and lasting change. In addition to knowing that we need to lose weight, we may want to know ‘how much, by when, what’s making me put on weight or keep it, what is currently not working that’s contributing to my weight gain or maintenance, etc…’ Otherwise, our efforts yields only limited and temporary results.
I also want to challenge my audience to think deeper about their goal and also consider questions such as: ‘Why do I want to lose weight? How will it feel to lose weight? What will I do/wear/eat when I lose weight? How will I interact when I lose weight? Am I afraid (at a subconscious level) to lose weight? Etc…’
I want to help them know themselves at a deeper level, uncovering deeper reasonings and meanings behind wants and desires. I want to help people know how to easily reframe their thoughts to be in control of their feelings and actions in regards to foods.
Sometimes, changes can be instant, especially if it boils down to a feeling. The majority of the time the issue really boils down to how we currently feel and why, and what we want to feel and why.
For example: ‘I want to lose weight … to feel good about myself.’
I want to help people realise that they can feel good right now and help them feel what that feels like right now.
This, requires a little digging into our own thinking and our subconscious mind. To change, we need to be aware of what the problem is and why, to reframe and put a plan of action.
I will do so by posing thought provoking questions that act like a mirror reflecting feelings and emotions behind existing and desired outcomes; by providing accountability to act and stay motivated to achieving goals, promoting self-love, self-praise and self-cheerleading to boost and raise self-confidence; and also to help people visualise, see and connect with their future selves to take action towards that ideal self.
2. Reframe limiting beliefs and build body confidence
According to a definition online, limiting beliefs are “the stories we tell ourselves about who we are that hold us back from becoming who we are meant to be. These beliefs limit us from reaching our full potential”. These limiting beliefs have been instilled and installed in us from childhood and molded us into whom we are today. The majority of my readers are likely already aware of some of their limiting beliefs and have already done some work on them. But it would be a mistake to think that we can undo the damage on our own. We often need help not only in uncovering the limiting beliefs but also to reframe them and install new empowering beliefs.
Many of us, especially when it comes to weight issues have the similar limiting beliefs. So having a support network and a community of likeminded people who understand what we may be going through could be just what we need to change (think, feel and act) quickly. They can act as supporters, accountability partners and cheerleaders. I’d like to build such a community.
3. Set healthier habits and triggers
Knowing what sets us off is also part of awareness. Often, we are unaware of our triggers – what makes us think, feel and act a particular way. I want to help people be more aware of those triggers especially in regards to weight management so that they can set new triggers that make them think, feel and act in a more empowering way.
4. Learn about nutrition and exercise
Knowing what to eat and not to eat and how best to exercise for fast results is also important. That, will be individualised. Again, it would be a mistake to think that one size fits all. We are not all made the same and our goals and needs are not all the same.
So in addition to promoting having the right mindset, I also believe in teaching people how to take care of themselves (i.e.: how to eat and create meal plans as well as knowing what exercises are best for them and how to create workout plans for their needs and schedules.)
5. Achieve their weight loss goals, with weekly milestones
I want to help people set SMART weight management goals and help keep them accountable with weekly check-ins and with more than just the numbers on the scale as a measure of success. I want to help them set goals that make them happy and that they look forward to and are easy to achieve. And if it they aren’t easy to achieve, then I want to help do an honest evaluation of why not and readjust. I want to help people know and understand that starting again is okay, just like starting a brand new day every morning.
Weekly-check-ins are important because sometimes:
- we don’t see any progress other than the way we feel.
- we just have a bad week or month.
- we just feel like giving up.
- change feels like a lot of effort.
- we don’t act unless we have to, not because we want to.
- we just feel low and need someone to pick us up.
- we’re too busy to think straight.
- we run on willpower and the tank is empty.
Conclusion
As mentioned above, my mission is to help people with their weight management goals by putting mindset first. As a trained coach and therapist, I have many tools in my toolbox of doing so. I enjoy working with people who are aware that it will take a mindset shift to create real change and who are prepared to make those changes as they focus on the benefits ahead, including their ideal weight and how it will feel to attain it.
HEY, I’m Gaelle…
I am a Life Coach and Hypnotherapist. I am also a Personal Trainer, Weight Management Advisor, Pilates instructor and Sports Massage Therapist.
I specialise in working with people who struggle to lose weight, who yoyo diet and binge eat. I help them achieve their ideal weight and keep it off for good by helping them change their habits, identify negative patterns or past/childhood trauma that might make them resistant to weight loss.
I help them gain motivation to change their lifestyle, learn how to meal plan, make better food choices, break their addiction to foods, as well as teaching them how to create an exercise routine that they enjoy.
My mission is to help people lose weight and keep it off by putting mindset first, then nutrition and exercise.
